This was an idea I never would've thought I’d actually like.
Even though my books are my experiences + others’ experiences that I’ve absorbed, I always like to let art breathe. I never like to simply state, “This poem is specifically about this, this story is specifically about that,” because I always want to leave as much room as possible for you, the reader, to mold any of the words you read to your experiences. And I suppose I never wanted concrete explanations of my work to subconsciously shut the door on what something might mean for you, if that makes sense.
BUT…
As a good handful of my ideas tend to do (truly, maybe a few more than a handful, my head tends to get very loud), this one kept knocking on the door of my brain and wouldn’t stop until I let it in and allowed it to walk through the door as a fully formed thought.
And much to my surprise, for whatever reason, it’s still sticking to me. So let’s roll with it.
If you’ve ever looked at something I’ve written and wondered, then good. But I hope you don’t mind if, this summer, I take away some of the wonder juuust a smidge 🤏🏼.
Twice a week, throughout May and June, I’ll be picking a handful of writings (that’ll be dubbed “tracks” —the obvious opportunity was there, I had to take it) from each of my books and pulling back the curtain, so to speak. Insight, writing process, all of the details—both significant and ‘seemingly insignificant.’
Might even let you in on some interconnections you may have missed between both books… if I’m feeling generous lol. I might just let you keep wondering about those 👀.
Tracks 1-5 will be from It All Started with a Purple Guitar (obv), and tracks 6-10 will be from Between the Strings Vol. I 🤍.
#Track1 is coming May 5th. So if you’ve yet to be caught up—what are you still doing here, go read.
Happy Thursday, people 💞.
See you soon for Track 1: The Graveyard 💜. xx
